Real Salt Lake Record

Most Real Salt Lake fans try to forget the team’s first three seasons – as they only managed to win 21 of their first 94 games. By the teams fourth year they finally built a strong enough squad to get out of the Western basement, making their first playoff appearance. By 2009 the team was crowned MLS Cup champs. The club went on to make six consecutive trips to the playoffs, before having a down season in 2015.

Over Real Salt Lake’s ten plus years of existence they have developed a rivalry with a handful of clubs. Their biggest rival is the Colorado Rapids whom they play for the Rocky Mountain Cup every season. Real Salt Lake has a 7-4 advantage in the series coming into the 2016 season. Real Salt Lake also has a rivalry with the LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City – the two teams they have played against in the MLS Cup finals.

Real Salt Lake calls Rio Tinto Stadium its home. The stadium opened in 2008 and the team has seen its attendance increase to point of being a sellout nearly every game in 2014 and 2015. The strong fan support has allowed for Real Salt Lake to become financial stable enough to remain in the MLS.

One of the reason Real Salt Lake has been a contender for a major part of their existence is consistency. The team has had the same captain – Kyle Beckerman – since May 2008, which is right around the time the team became a true threat in the West. Real Salt Lake has only had three managers in their history and their current one – Jeff Cassar – worked with the team for six years before being promoted to manager.
