After winning the NBA Championship in the 2010-11 season, the Dallas Mavericks have been trying to find some sustainable success. Their roster has gone through many makeovers since that time in an attempt to avoid a full rebuild, but four first round playoff exits in the five seasons since might finally be the sign ownership needs that they’ve simply been avoiding the inevitable. Stars like Dirk Nowitzki aren’t getting any younger, as the Dallas Mavericks lines might see a dramatic shift in the coming years. [+]

Dallas Mavericks Record

The 2011 Championship was the high point for this franchise that entered the league for the 1980-81 season. Almost all of the Mavericks significant success in this league has come since the turn of the century though and that’s about the same time Dirk Nowitzki really started to blossom into a superstar. He led this team to two NBA Finals appearances, but he turned 38 in 2016 and it’s time for the Mavericks to really prepare for life after Nowitzki.

That’s been the view of this organization from bettors for a few seasons now, yet, those who prefer to fade Dallas more often than not got burned in the 15-16 season. Dallas finished the year with a 42-40 straight up record, but more importantly went 44-37-1 against the spread. Those numbers would suggest that the Mavericks idea of “reloading” and not “rebuilding” might be working, but they still aren’t built to make a deep run through the playoffs in today’s NBA.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see the route management decides to take with this Mavericks roster. The team will always have some inherent betting angles in their favour at home as part of the dreaded “Texas Triangle (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio)” for visitors in the midst of a road trip, but it’s tough not to believe that their winning ATS record in 15-16 was partly a mirage.

This could be one team in the next few seasons that you may want to leave off your betting card more often than not.
