The Houston Astros are one of two Texan teams having been founded in 1962 as the Houston Colt .45s. The team changed their name to the Astros in 1965 after the control center of the U.S. space program based in the city. The Astros are one of eight MLB teams that have yet to win a World Series although they’ve been to the big stage once. They moved from the National League to the American League in 2013 and at one point were nicknamed the “Lastros” following three consecutive 100-loss seasons.
They have since turned the corner much to the delight of their fans and prospecting gamblers.

Houston Astros Record
The Astros’ first playoff appearance was in 1980 when they won their division for the first time as well. They would not win a playoff series until 2004. In 2005, they made their lone World Series appearance as a wild card team and got swept by the Chicago White Sox. They moved from the National League to the American League in 2013 and returned to the playoffs in 2015 again as a wild card team and lose in the ALDS.
The Astros didn’t exactly go from punching bags to division champions but they at least won half their division games. They particularly beat up on the Seattle Mariners but lost many crucial games to the Texas Rangers, eventually surrendering the division lead to them. They had a winning record against all their division rivals but the Rangers.
It was a case of Jekyll and Hyde for the Astros when it came to their home and road games. The Astros had the division’s best home record and worst road record. They were carried by the pitching especially by Cy Young winner, Dallas Kuechel and had timely hitting from superstar second baseman, Jose Altuve. They’re a balanced team if all their pieces perform to their best like they did in 2015.
The Astros overachieved in 2015 and barely made the playoffs. Kuechel will be hard-pressed to repeat his Cy Young-winning performance and despite having a very capable lineup led by Altuve and emerging prospect, Carlos Correa, the Astros will have to get lucky breaks again. They have the tools to contend again but falling back down to earth and a middling finish in the division could be what happens.
