Valued at over 3.2 billion by Forbes in 2015, the New York Yankees are the second most valuable franchise in the world. Beginning as a charter member in 1901, the Yankees established their name in 1913 and are the most successful franchise in MLB history. Their 27 World Series titles, 40 AL pennants and 18 division titles are all records. Their consistent success topped with their enormous payroll has earned both worldwide popularity and animosity. New York Yankees Record

1923 marked the first season the Yankees won the World Series. They lost their first two prior. They are also the last franchise to win consecutive World Series titles when they had a “threepeat” from 1998 to 2000. Their last title came in 2009. They haven’t missed the playoffs more than twice in a row since 1994 and their last losing season came in 1992. Missing the playoffs in 2007 ended a 13-season streak.

The Yankees usually hold mastery over their division. They have staggeringly won 18 of the 45 division titles. However, in 2015, the Yankees just finished with an even division record. Historically, they have been good against the Toronto Blue Jays but were dismantled 6-13 against them. Against their archrivals, the Red Sox, the Yankees hold a 55 percent winning advantage through two thousand plus meetings.

Like their rivals from Boston, the Yankees’ team on paper is filled with stars. They are very balanced from both offense and defense but their key players like CC Sabathia, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira are all aging and have their best seasons behind them. Their ace, Masahiro Tanaka, needs to remain healthy and their controversial acquisition at closer, Aroldis Chapman will have to be on his best behavior or he risks another suspension.

Rxpecting the Yankees to finish somewhere in the middle of the division with a winning record is a likely expectation although the crazed fanbase always believes they can be champions. It’s definitely possible if the Yankees’ old players can remain healthy and revive their primal selves. But if the Yankees’ new acquisitions like cannot produce quickly and old age and injuries become too much, the “Bronx Bombers” may suffer their first losing season in 24 years.
